Milwaukee Women inc Candidate Nomination Form and Process

The following guidelines were adopted to ensure a Steering Committee that is committed, diverse, and actively engaged in MWi’s mission. The goal is to have a diverse membership in regard to industry background, areas of expertise, and ethnicity. Steering Committee Members are women with executive-level experience. A key consideration in evaluating candidates is their ability to influence stakeholders in the business community and drive change at a systemic/ecosystem level for all qualified women who aspire to serve on corporate boards.


Steering Committee Membership Criteria: 

  • 10+ years of executive leadership experience, preferably at the C-level
  • Already qualified to serve as a director of a public or private company
  • Recognized leader in their field and have established a broad sphere of influence
  • Familiar with board governance based on experience serving on non-profit, advisory, or corporate boards  (public or private) and/or direct interaction with their organization’s board
  • Can demonstrate commitment to the mission of MWi
  • Regularly attend the Steering Committee meetings, serve on one of MWi’s principal committees, and    otherwise contribute their time, talents, and resources consistent with the needs of the organization
  • Make a minimum annual contribution of $500 to MWi


Nomination Process:  

The candidate is identified by a MWi Steering Committee member based on the criteria listed above.


The nominator (Steering Committee Member) will notify the Chair of the Nominating Committee or the MWi President and CEO of the intent to nominate the identified candidate.


A member of the Nominating Committee or MWi’s President & CEO will have an initial conversation with the nominator regarding the candidate meeting the criteria and preparation of the nomination form.


The nominator will fill out the candidate nomination form below after speaking with the candidate, and will submit the completed form along with their resume and/or board bio to the President & CEO. (NOTE: The nomination form is an internal MWi document and is not to be shared with prospective candidates.)


The Chair of the Nominating Committee in conjunction with the President & CEO will prepare documents to be presented to the Nominating Committee for review. Wherever possible the individual who met with the nominator in step three will present the candidate and information presented by the Nominator.


The Nominating Committee will discuss and vote on the candidate.  The recommendation of the Nominating Committee will then be transmitted to the Board for final membership decision.


The MWi President & CEO will follow up with the nominator about the submitted candidacy for membership. If a candidate is declined, the decision will be communicated by the Nominating Committee Chair to the nominator.  The nominator is responsible for closing the loop with the candidate.


Following board approval, MWi staff will send a Welcome Packet and instructions for membership.


The Membership Engagement Committee will host a new member orientation to welcome new steering committee members.
